Kentucky Basketball Recruiting: James Wiseman and DJ Jeffries expected to join Penny Hardaway at Memphis?

One report says these two UK recruits are expected to end up at Memphis, which could be a crushing blow for UK in 2019.

Now that Penny Hardaway is coaching the Memphis Tigers, they’ll be a formidable opponent on the recruiting trail.

John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats may learn this the hard way if they lose James Wiseman to Memphis. That’s been the expectation among many recruitings analysts in recent weeks.

Could current UK pledge DJ Jeffries also end up at Memphis?

Yahoo Sports’ Jason Owens says that’s the expectation:

Five-star prospect Chandler Lawson and James Wiseman, the No. 2 overall prospect in his class also played for Hardaway at East High while four-star prospect D.J. Jeffries played for Hardaway’s youth league Team Penny. They’re all expected to join Hardaway in Memphis which would give him a formidable core of young talent in his second year on the job.

If DJ Jeffries were to back off of his pledge from UK and flip to Memphis, then have AAU teammate James Wiseman also pick the Tigers, it could prove to be a crushing blow in UK’s 2019 recruiting class.

Jeffries has made it sound like he’s solid to UK and won’t flip to Memphis, but this will still be something to monitor in the coming weeks and months.

I think Jeffries ultimately sticks with the Cats, but Wiseman is far more of a toss-up at this point. There have been six-straight picks for Memphis in Wiseman’s 247 Crystal Ball, so if nothing else, the Tigers are making a strong push for the No. 1 overall recruit in 2019.
