UK Basketball Recruiting: More good vibes with Ashton Hagans

Ashton Hagans would love for UK to recruit him, and more recruiting experts are picking UK for the 5-star guard.

The recruitment of Ashton Hagans still appears to be in its early stages, at least for the Kentucky Wildcats.

Despite the buzz building for UK in this recruitment, Hagans’ father told the Courier-Journal that John Calipari and his staff aren’t making him a priority just yet.

“We would love for Kentucky to recruit him along with everybody else,” Marvin Hagans said. “I mean, who wouldn’t? John Calipari — any and everybody would say he knows what he’s doing. But we’re wide open to everybody and we’re not going to rush anything.”

However, Marvin did say a UK assistant has contacted Chris Williams, who is Ashton’s AAU coach. You would think UK would be showing some level of interest in a recruit ranked 11th nationally by 247 Sports Composite, which measures all of the major recruiting rankings.

Perhaps part of why UK hasn’t gone all in just yet on Hagans is due to the 2019 star considering a reclassification up to the 2018 class.

Either way, recruiting experts everywhere are picking UK for this five-star point guard, the latest being 247 recruiting director Jerry Meyer. UK now leads Hagans’ 247 Crystal Ball after receiving five straight picks.

While it seems odd for so many experts to pick UK despite UK supposedly showing little interest thus far, perhaps it’s a situation where UK is keeping this recruitment under wraps, and so too is Hagans’ family.

After all, UK is still in the running for a variety of guards in the 2018 and 2019 classes, including Tyrese Maxey, Brandon Williams, Jalen Lecque and Bryan Antoine.
