The South Region has descended into utter chaos.
The established goliaths of the region have been slain and what remains is a heap of scrappy mid-majors, low-seeded Power 5s.....and the Kentucky Wildcats.
Kentucky looks like the far-and-away favorite to make the Final Four from the South, as the Wildcats are the only team that’s been able to take care of business, while the other powerhouses of the region imploded on themselves in one of the greatest diasters that has ever happened.
As the Wildcats make the trip to (C)Atlanta, they know they’re up against the No. 9 seed Kansas State Wildcats. Kansas State also had to escape the madness by defeating the UMBC Retrievers, the first 16 seed to ever defeat a No. 1 seed.
Kansas State could be returning leading scorer Dead Wade, but Kentucky may be able to counter with the return of Jarred Vanderbilt, who appears to be getting close to making his tournament debut.
Should Kentucky get past Kansas State, the Wildcats will have two other lower seeds awaiting them, as the No. 7 seed Nevada Wolfpack is set to take on the No. 11 seed Loyola-Chicago Ramblers in the South Region’s other Sweet 16 game.
The Wildcats simply have to duck the upset-minded teams in the region to make the Final Four, but that’s much easier said than done in this year’s tournament. This time of year, it’s hard to take down teams like Loyola-Chicago when they get rolling like they have.
So, how do you think UK will fare in Atlanta?
