Kentucky Basketball Recruiting: UK trending for Ashton Hagans

Watch out for John Calipari and UK in this recruitment.

The Kentucky Wildcats are becoming a major player in the recruitment of 2019 point guard Ashton Hagans.

Hagans’ 247 Crystal Ball has seen some UK picks come in, including one from recruiting expert Andrew Slater. That’s pretty significant, and it signals that, at the very least, UK is a team to watch for in this recruitment.

If you recall, Hagans recently committed to the Georgia Bulldogs, only to back out of that pledge a few weeks later. It was then revealed that Hagans is reclassifying into the 2018 class, according to recruiting guru Evan Daniels.

However, Hagans has since shot that rumor down, though there’s been reported interest from UK in him as a 2018 recruit.

It’s unclear how high Hagans would be ranked in 2018 after being ranked as high as No. 8 overall in 2019. He’s ranked 11th nationally by 247 Sports Composite, which measures all of the major recruiting rankings.

Hagans had been watched multiple times this past fall by UK coaches, but there’s been no scholarship offer extended by John Calipari just yet.

While Hagans would be a nice get in 2019, UK could really use him in 2018. In terms of next season’s team, UK could lose Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Hamidou Diallo to the NBA Draft, so bringing in another guard for next season would be ideal.

In terms of 2019, UK could have Quade Green, Immanuel Quickley and Tyler Herro all returning as upperclassmen in the backcourt. UK is also firmly in the running for 2019 point guard Tyrese Maxey.
