The Kentucky Wildcats defeated the Davidson Wildcats by a score of 78-73, but it was much closer than the score represented.
This was a tough game for Kentucky to get through. Davidson did not let the Cats breathe as they were hitting threes and playing aggressive defense.
In the first half, Davidson let Kentucky bully them. Davidson made sure that wasn’t the case in the second half. They were extremely scrappy, and just like Cal said, they did not turn the ball over.
When a team can hit threes the way Davidson can along with the fact that they don’t make mistakes, it makes for a dangerous team and we saw it come true today.
With all of that being said, Kentucky was able to pull out a hard fought victory against Davidson, and they should be proud of it.
Game MVP
Kevin Knox is the MVP here, and there’s no question about it. Scoring 7 of 9 points in crunch time to give your team the push it needs is huge. Kevin elevated his game to another level right when Kentucky needed him to.
He scored 25 points on 8-of-16 shooting, and he propelled his team to victory. He had a mismatch all day and he took advantage of it. We saw a good mix of driving and pull-up jumpers from Knox.
This was huge for Kevin and the entire Kentucky team. At this moment, it’s all about winning the day and moving on to the next one. Expect this to be the Kevin Knox we see for the rest of the tournament.
Here is the final box score:
