The Kentucky Wildcats are SEC champs again, so of course, they’re racking up some postseason hardware.
After winning three games in three days, the Cats had three players make the All-SEC Tournament team; Kevin Knox, Wenyen Gabriel and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
And to no surprise, it was Gilgeous-Alexander who was named SEC Tournament MVP. On 10‐of‐16 shooting, the Canadian phenom posted his fifth career 20‐point performance of the year with a game‐high 29 in UK’s 77-72 win over Tennessee.
That is the third‐most points in an SEC Tournament final (since 1979) and one shy of his career high. He also tied his career best for rebounds with seven.
Knox had his best game of the tourney with 18 points to go with seven boards. He scored 11 points in Saturday’s win over Alabama, which followed a 15-point, nine-rebound game against Georgia on Friday.
Gabriel did it all today, finishing with 12 points, six boards, three steals and two blocks. After hitting 2‐of‐4 3‐pointers today, Gabriel finished the SEC Tournament making 11‐of‐15 (73.3 percent), which is the fourth‐best 3‐point percentage in a single tourney (minimum six attempts). The 11 treys are tied for eighth‐most ever made.
