The Kentucky Wildcats have lost a big part of their linebacker depth.
On Friday, it was revealed that Eli Brown is set to transfer from the program, according to Tyler Mansfield of the Sporting Times.
The former Warren East star was one of UK’s top signees in the Class of 2015, not to mention one of the more highly sought after recruits from the state of Kentucky recently. He committed to UK and wound up redshirting in his first season, then played sparingly in 2016.
In 2017, Brown had a major role in UK’s defense when Jordan Jones went down with a shoulder injury. In 12 games, Brown racked up 38 total tackles (21 total and 17 assisted) with two tackles for loss and a pass deflection.
But once Jones returned to the lineup, Brown went back to being a seldom-used linebacker. With Jones being back for his senior year in 2018, it was going to be hard for Brown to earn significant playing time yet again, so it’s understandable that he wants more playing time elsewhere.
