Will the Kentucky Wildcats pursue Shareef O’Neal now that he’s back on the market?
One would think so after UK showed interest over the summer and briefly in the fall, but there was never strong interest by John Calipari. That was partly because O’Neal was committed to Arizona, but UK also had several bigger targets at the time for what could be a small class.
But after Bol Bol, Cameron Reddish, R.J. Barrett and Zion Williamson all went off the board, UK is now in need of 2-3 more additions, and there’s not a lot of targets to fill them.
Perhaps O’Neal will become someone UK begans pursuing harder. After all, some UK signees are already coming after the son of Shaq.
Over the weekend, five-star point guard Immanuel Quickley and four-star shooting guard Tyler Herro made their pitches to O’Neal.

And for what it’s worth, 247 recruiting analyst Chad Lykins logged a crystal ball prediction in favor of UK. Currently, all seven predictions are in favor of the Wildcats.
This feels like a recruitment UK will win out on if Calipari extends a scholarship offer O’Neal. That said, UK still has E.J. Montgomery and possibly James Wiseman in play for the 2018 class.
If O’Neal is willing to wait until April-May so UK has a better idea for who’s staying and leaving, that offer could eventually come.
But for now, it’s just pure speculation.
