The Kentucky Wildcats are back in the win column thanks to an 81-71 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide.

It wasn’t always pretty, but the Cats did just enough to end their four-game losing streak and score a very solid win. Entering Saturday, Alabama was an RPI top-30 team, which means this qualifies as a Quadrant I win in the NCAA selection committee’s new formula.

That said, any kind of win against any level of team was going to feel good today, and the Cats did that with a win over a Bama team surging toward an NCAA Tournament berth.

Game MVP

After being sent to the bench in favor of Wenyen Gabriel, PJ Washington responded with one of his best games in a month. He finished with 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting to go with five rebounds.

It was a team-high and tied Alabama’s Donta Hall for a game-high in points. PJ got off to a pretty rough start with turnovers and foul trouble, but he responded with a strong finish to the first half, then scored 10 points in the second half.

Kentucky has been in desperate need of PJ to step up, and he did so in a big way today. If he can keep this up, Kentucky can finish strong going into the Big Dance.

Here is the final box score from win No. 18 on the season:
