The top shooting guard in the 2019 class will not be taking an official visit to UK.
Anthony Edwards told USA Today’s Jason Jordan that he will be taking official visits to Duke, Michigan State, Kansas and Florida State, but not UK. He’s already visited Georgia, so that would account for all of his official visits. He could still unofficially visit UK, so not all hope is lost, but it’s rare you see an elite player commit to a school he didn’t officially visit.
Edwards is a 6-5 215 pound combo guard from Atlanta, Georgia. He’s drawn many comparisons in his game to NBA superstar James Harden. Back in November, Anthony named UK as one of his top 8 schools.
Now, it would appear the Cats’ chances of landing the 5-star recruit are on life support. The other schools listed that he will not be visiting are UCLA and North Carolina.
Anthony is yet another top recruit in recent weeks to spurn Coach Cal and the Wildcats. The recruiting troubles for 2019 began when James Wiseman picked Memphis over Kentucky. With the Edwards news, it’s looking as if Calipari will once again be without a top 5 recruit for next season. The last top 5 recruit to play for Kentucky was Skal Labissiere in 2015.
As of now, UK has 2 recruits in the top 10 for next season, the #8 ranked Khalil Whitney and the #10 ranked Tyrese Maxey.
