Richt and the Hurricanes were expected to be a strong ACC contender this year with a very favorable schedule, but they turned into one of the biggest disappointments in the 2018 season, finishing 7-6 and losing 35-3 to Wisconsin in the Pinstripe Bowl. It also led to speculation that Richt could be on the hot seat, but the school later announced he would return in 2019.
This is actually big news for Kentucky, who annually recruits again the Hurricanes for recruits. The most notable recent battle was for four-star quarterback Jarren Williams, who decommitted from Kentucky and signed with the Hurricanes in the Class of 2018.
But after a rocky first season, Williams considered a transfer to Kentucky, only to back out and stay at Miami. You have to think this news will lead to Williams re-visiting the transfer.
Another recruiting battle Miami beat Kentucky in recently was with four-star safety Keontra Smith, who also was committed to the Wildcats before flipping to the Hurricanes. You have to think Kentucky will be back in the mix for Smith if he reopens his recruitment.
