Kentucky’s national title odds are dropping

An updated look at which teams have the best odds to win it all this season.

Coming into the season, Kentucky was tied with Duke for the best odds to win the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

Even after the Wildcats’ setback in the Champions Classic, they were still getting the second or third-best odds to win it all in most sportsbooks. However, their odds have taken quite a dip after the first eight games of the new season.

As of Monday, Dec. 3, Kentucky has the fifth-best odds to win it all at Bovada, who gives John Calipari’s team +1600 odds after beginning the season at +500.

Duke leads the way at +200, followed by Gonzaga, Kansas and even Nevada. Right behind Kentucky is Virginia, Michigan and North Carolina.

As for the rest of the SEC, Auburn and Tennessee are tied with Michigan State for the 10th-best odds to win it all. Florida is sitting at +7000, while LSU and Mississippi State are tied at +8000.

While you could argue Kentucky’s potential could have their odds a little higher, you could also make the case for them being lower on this list. They’ve not looked great in their seven-game winning streak that’s been mostly cupcakes ranked 150+ in KenPom’s ratings, while teams like Michigan, Virginia and Auburn have looked far more impressive.

The win over UNC Greensboro was nice, but it’s clear this team is still a major work in progress going into what’s going to be a challenging December schedule, which includes UNC (+2000), Louisville (+7000) and Seton Hall (+20000).
