Anthony Edwards trims list and UK makes the cut

This is actually big news for UK, who appeared close to being cut.

Kentucky is still in the running for the recruit who may finish No. 1 in the Class of 2019.

On Friday, five-star guard Anthony Edwards cut his list to five schools, and the Kentucky Wildcats made the cut. They were joined by the Kansas Jayhawks, North Carolina Tar Heels, Florida State Seminoles and Georgia Bulldogs.

Among the schools cut were the Duke Blue Devils, Michigan State Spartans and UCLA Bruins.

This is actually big news for Kentucky, as it appeared they were too far behind to even make his top five and get an official visit. Edwards actually said he planned to visit the Michigan State in addition to the schools mentioned above after previously visiting Georgia.

The 6-4, 215-pound shooting guard hails from Holy Spirit Preparatory School in Georgia. He’s ranked No. 1 in 2019 by 247 Sports, while Rivals has him at No. 3 and ESPN at No. 4.

The Wildcats are still facing an uphill climb with Florida State believed to have a sizable lead in this race, but John Calipari and his staff are still in the running, and that’s all you can ask for at this stage.

“Kentucky is in the mix. He says they’ve made him a priority,” said Daniels in a recent interview with the Herald-Leader. “I think they’ll push to get a visit, and we’ll see where it goes from there. Anything other than that is just speculation at this point.”

When asked about Kentucky, Edwards offered the following to Evan Daniels of 247 Sports:

“Kentucky is the Big Blue school. It’s different with coach Cal and it’s a good school and I know a couple of people that go there.”
