More details have emerged regarding Zy’Aire Hughes’ arrest.
Hughes, who is accused of intentionally causing injury to his girlfriend, allegedly left her with bruises and fresh scratches, according to the police report.
The wide receiver appeared for his arraignment Monday from the Fayette County Detention Center, where he has been held since 4 a.m. Sunday morning.
Hughes agreed to have no contact with the victim and will be released from jail to his mother, and he will be back in court on December 12th.
Tony Neely, UK’s sports information director, said Monday that the school has no further comment on Hughes’ arrest.
Neely added that there is no specific policy for how the university handles assault or domestic violence.
Head Coach Mark Stoops said Sunday in a statement released by UK. “ We’re aware of the situation; We’re in the process of gathering information. Proper behavior is an expectation of our program, and we will address this as the facts are determined.
Kentucky sophomore wide receiver Zy’Aire Hughes was arrested early Sunday morning.
His exact charge was assault fourth-degree, according to the Fayette County Detention Center jail’s website.
The Receiver from Paducah, who scored a touchdown versus Murray State, has appeared in five games for the Wildcats this season. His touchdown came on a reverse that Benny Snell Jr. was credited with a touchdown pass for.
Great example from Saturday's Kentucky game for how we attempt to apply some common sense to college football stats.— CFB Film Room (@CFBFilmRoom) September 19, 2018
Officially, Benny Snell (lined up as wild cat QB) gets credited with a 43-yards touchdown pass on this play. We chart it as a rushing TD for Zy'Aire Hughes. pic.twitter.com/rMiQhozEnf
“Zy’Aire Hughes is going to be a big-time playmaker for us in the future,” said Mark Stoops following Kentucky’s win over Middle Tennessee.
On a day that should be one for celebration, this is surely not want Mark Stoops and his team wants to be dealing with.
It is fair to think Hughes will not make the trip to Kentucky’s bowl game, but nothing has been announced yet.
We’ll update this story if any more details come out.
