Kentucky wide receiver Zy’Aire Hughes will not play in Kentucky’s Citrus Bowl matchup with Penn State Mark Stoops announced Friday.
The Paducah, KY native was arrested in the early morning hours on December 3rd for allegedly intentionally causing injury to his girlfriend.
The day after his arrest, the wide receiver appeared for his arraignment from the Fayette County Detention Center, where he had been held for a little over a day.
Hughes agreed to have no contact with the victim and was released to his mother.
Today, Stoops announced Hughes has been suspended from all team activities and will not play in the Citrus Bowl.
Hughes was supposed to be a big part of Kentucky’s future, at least according to Stoops following Kentucky’s win over Middle Tennessee on November 17th.
“Zy’Aire Hughes is going to be a big-time playmaker for us in the future.”
Now, his future is very uncertain as legal proceedings proceed. Stay tuned for more updates on Hughes’s future with the Wildcats.
