Earlier this morning the rumor mill was swirling when Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio put out a cryptic tweet involving news around the UK Basketball team:
Some Potential major UK Basketball news coming today....
— Matt Jones (@KySportsRadio) December 12, 2018
Well, about an hour later, that news turned out to be the potential transfer of Kentucky Wildcats point guard Quade Green. This comes on the heels of Green struggling all season long, playing as the number three point guard in the rotation behind Ashton Hagans and Immanuel Quickley.
Transferring seems to be the best option for Green, as his situation is similar to Kyle Wiltjer’s a few years ago. He’s not getting the playing time that he wants and if one of Hagans or Quickley decided to return next year, or maybe both, combined with Tyrese Maxey, Quade would more than likely be the third or fourth option at point guard.
I would expect Green to look at his other schools that were on his list along with Kentucky; Temple, Villanova, and Syracuse. I would also watch for Washington, as the assistant that was recruiting Green to Syracuse, Mike Hopkins, is now the head coach of the Huskies. They are already getting buzz as a possible destination for Green.
Now, let’s see what twitter had to say involving the news:
Quade's season in a tweet:

Offense: Strong 60.3% aFG% on jumpers. UK's best guard running pick & roll but TO% too high.
Defense: Bottom 15% defending all jumpers (1.231 PPP), bottom 12% catch & shoot, bottom 16% pick & roll - major reason for UK's perimeter defense struggles.
Look for Quade Green to have options. I know several Philly area schools are interested (as they were last summer when QG transferring was first rumored) - as well as Washington, USC, Nevada, & Butler. @UKSportsNetwork

Quade was never totally comfortable with his role at UK and I don’t think he totally fit the role of a Calipari point guard
— Matt Jones (@KySportsRadio) December 12, 2018
But he is a good kid who I think can be a very good college player. I hope he crushes it wherever he goes (my money is on Washington)
Need Quade Green to announce a transfer to Villanova and make a statement that includes “it was my second choice for a reason”

quade green would be the sixth transfer from kentucky in the last three seasons.

The surprise wasn't that he's leaving. In fact, I gather there's been a growing sense for a while now within the program that he'd ultimately bolt. The shock was that it was so sudden, right now, bouncing (probably) before they even play another game. https://t.co/Rq2dzHsudt

After playing at least 17 minutes in each of the first seven games this season, Quade Green has played a total of 18 minutes in the last two games.

As if the Trae Young vs. Quade Green recruitment wasn’t already settled, huge miscue by Calipari two summers ago. https://t.co/Q68ZHtvVtY

That said, I’ve never thought the fit has been right for Quade. Cal hasn’t played him at point but his size kills him off the ball. You can’t play him when he’s not hitting shots because he struggles defensively. If he leaves I hope he finds the best situation for himself. https://t.co/W7eFVDZst8

Quade Green's high school coach Carl Arrigale told me he hasn't talked to Green but said, "He won't have any trouble finding a landing spot."

my heart breaks a little whenever one of our guys transfers. Quade I wish you the absolute best in whatever you decide. #BBN #QuadeGreen

Nova and Kentucky trade- Quade Green for Javhon Quinerly straight up. Green is from Philly as well and was a high school teammate of Nova forward Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree.
— Shawn Burns (@sburns4597) December 12, 2018
Quade Green has 21 assists and 21 turnovers this season. He provides some solid offense, but that is not a good ratio for an SEC PG.

HS players & parents get caught up in the “High D1-Dream”. Go where you can play. Go where you can get minutes. If you have aspirations of playing professionally somewhere, someday — GET MINUTES. We will find you whether you’re playing at Kentucky, Louisville, Bellarmine, etc.

@Q_Green1 good luck my friend. Stay the course on and off the court. Don’t cheat yourself academically. Wishing you only the best.

People close to Quade Green are not surprised by the transfer news in the slightest, feel he was not used properly at Kentucky. He’ll be eligible to play in the spring semester of 2020 at another school.

There’s actually a really cool story about Green on TJ Beisner’s timeline that you should take the time to read. It didn’t work out at UK, but Green is a great kid who will hopefully find what he’s looking for at his next school.
All summer, my little man would scream “Quade just asked me to play Fortnite with him!!!” each time they got on together. He still tells people Quade Green was his first friend in Lexington. Quade will always be my guy for that. Wishing him all the best.
