Wednesday Quickies: Opening Loss Edition

The Wildcats were romped by Duke on a national stage last night.

PJ Washington Jamie Boggs - Sea of Blue

Geez, well I’m glad that game is finished...

Last night was the furthest thing from the type of opener we thought we would see in the Champions Classic as Kentucky was dismantled by Duke in front of a national stage on the opening night of the college basketball season.

Duke’s three superstar freshmen (RJ Barrett, Zion Williamson, and Cam Reddish) showed out and gave a lot of belief to the possibility those three could all be drafted in the top 5 of the NBA Draft, while Kentucky looked flat and made mistake after mistake while looking completely lost on the defensive side of the ball.

I won’t rehash all the details of the game, but if you’re looking for optimism, it was the first game of the season and Kentucky should consistently improve over the course of the season. Also, especially defensively, the only way to go is up, right?
