Final box score and Game MVP from Kentucky vs. Duke

Some Wildcats managed to shine bright amid the loss.

The Kentucky Wildcats opened up the 2018-19 college basketball season tonight. It didn’t exactly go as planned as UK was absolutely demolished by the Duke Blue Devils 118-84.

There’s not a lot to say. Duke is simply the better team. Kentucky looked completely overwhelmed, and well, Duke was just unstoppable.

Duke’s No. 1 recruiting class highlighted by the top three players in the country proved entirely too much for the Cats. The “Big Three” were unguardable tonight and the Blue Devils just couldn’t miss.

Duke either had the best game they’ll have all year, or there’s no one in college basketball that stands a chance. I think Kentucky is still a top-ten team, but man that was tough to watch. Regardless of how good Duke is, this simply doesn’t happen to Kentucky.

Let’s hope tonight was somewhat of a fluke for both teams.

Box Score

Game MVP

I have to go with Reid Travis here. There wasn’t much positive to take from that game, but Travis played well and he played hard throughout. He was everything Kentucky could have hoped for, even though this game quickly turned into a blowout.

Travis was again hard to stop down low. He bullied whoever was put up against him and he even stepped out to knock down his lone three-point attempt. He was definitely a sight for sore eyes.

Travis finished with 22 points and seven rebounds on 6/8 shooting to go with seven rebounds. Kentucky is going to need him to really step up as a leader to overcome this setback and get this team back in the right direction.

You could also make a good argument for Keldon Johnson, who scored 23 points on 8/16 shooting to go with four rebounds and two assists.

On to the next one.
