With the new college basketball season here, we’ll also soon learn where several of the nation’s top recruits are going.
That’s because the fall signing period runs from Nov. 14-21, and expectations are that James Wiseman will be part of them. We should hear of a decision date soon, but it sounds like it may not end well for Kentucky.
KSR’s TJ Walker just gave an update that suggests Memphis is in great shape for Wiseman heading into the stretch run.
People in Memphis, and supposedly the Tigers’ staff, feel that he’s a done deal for the Tigers and it’s just a matter of time. One Memphis source told me they expect a decision date set this week and by the end of the month Wiseman will officially be a Tiger.
Walker added that “Memphis has more momentum at this moment than any team has during the two-year recruitment.”
Gary Parrish of CBS Sports is also predicting that Wiseman will pick Memphis over Kentucky.
All of this comes as Memphis is still the heavy leader for Wiseman in the 247 Sports crystal ball, which has the Tigers getting 71 percent of the picks compared to Kentucky’s 29.
It won’t be anything close to a surprise if Wiseman ultimately picks Memphis, though it will still be a major sting for Kentucky, who was in the driver’s seat until Penny Hardaway was hired at Memphis.
The good news for Kentucky is Vernon Carey, Matthew Hurt and Isaiah Stewart are still on the board, though Carey is also believed to be deciding soon, and who knows what Stewart will do.
