Monday Quickies: Feast Week Edition

Cats take down VMI, UK soccer and volleyball roll, looking ahead to rivalry week, and more!

NCAA Basketball: VMI at Kentucky Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

It’s Monday but most of us have a short week, so let’s get through these few work days with as little stress as possible.

Not only do we have Thanksgiving Day to look forward to, but the Kentucky Wildcats will be in action all week from the basketball court to the football field.

Wednesday the Cats will play an early afternoon basketball game vs. Winthrop at 1:00 PM in Rupp Arena. They will be in action again on Friday night at 7:00 PM at home again vs. Tennessee State.

On Saturday UK will head to Louisville to take on the trash fire Cardinal football team.

In between turkey sandwiches and pumpkin pie, take in the Cats and the plethora of sporting events this holiday week.

Tweets of the Day

PJ was a monster last night.

I’m not a fan of this twitter account but this tweet was too good to pass up.

Quickies

Kentucky survives persistent VMI team | WDRB- The Keydets came in firing on all cylinders as Bubba Paraham hit 10 threes and scored 35 points. The opposition was having one of those nights and the Wildcats couldn’t really stop them from hitting from beyond the arch. Luckily the offense was up to the task thanks to big games from PJ Washington, Reid Travis, and Quade Green.

Quade Green’s practice habits translating to games | Cats Pause- The sophomore combo guard has quietly been carving out minutes for himself in the last three games. Green’s efficient offense and ability to get buckets when UK needs them the most is setting him apart from the rest of the guards. And it all starts at practice for him.

Kentucky at 17 in latest top 25 | WKYT- The Wildcats are sitting inside the top 20 and will likely end the regular season there. If they beat Louisville on Saturday and things shake out in their favor, they can end in the top 15.

One thing from every SEC team in week 12 | Saturdays Down South- The folks over at SDS think the Cats were a little overrated. I’ll take 8-3 and overrated everyday and twice on Sunday. That overrated Kentucky team smacked SEC darlings Florida around yet the Gators continue to get the love. Talk about overrated....

Cats survive three point barrage | Cats Illustrated- Something tells me the VMI Keydets won’t have a shooting performance like that for the rest of the season. It was otherworldly the way they were knocking down shots.

UK soccer dominates Portland | UK Athletics- The final score was 4-0 as the Cats blast their way into the Sweet Sixteen. Their next game will be against Lipscomb on 11/24.

Women’s volleyball takes SEC in sweep | UK Athletics- Craig Skinner’s team is 16-0 and they already clenched a title. They swept the Missouri Tigers to win the conference outright.

College football bowl projections | CBS- Some how Florida is getting the Fiesta Bowl over UK even though the Cats have an identical record, will finish higher in the SEC, have more wins vs. the top 25, and won head to head. The good ole boy club coming through for the Gators.

Alex Smith has a Theisman like injury | ESPN- The Redskins QB broke his leg on Sunday and it was as gruesome as an injury can be. It’s unclear whether or not Smith will be able to play football in the future.
