Monday Quickies: Bounce Back Week Edition

Basketball and football teams look to bounce back after a disastrous week, Soccer gets another title, and Bobby Petrino is gone.

NCAA Basketball: Southern Illinois at Kentucky Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

Last week was not a banner week for the Big Blue Nation. The basketball team was dominated on Tuesday night by a Duke team that at times struggled with Army on Sunday. And then the football was dominated by a less than average Tennessee team.

This week is a bounce back week for both programs. The football team takes on a solid Middle Tennessee State team on Saturday. Eddie Gran has a lot of work to do as the offense continues to be flat out bad and it’s time for Kentucky’s stars and upperclassmen to step up to the plate.

As for the basketball team, they play Wednesday against North Dakota and then are back at it on Sunday against VMI. Besides the loss to Duke, the Cats struggled for a decent portion of their game Friday against Southern Illinois before finally pulling away at the end.

John Calipari has to figure out his rotation and his guys have to find an identity.

While neither team is playing an opponent of a high caliber, both football and basketball need to show dominance and competence to get back some swagger and confidence.

Tweets of the Day

A healthy Kevin Knox is a dangerous Kevin Knox.

It’s senior day at Kroger Field this Saturday and it’ll be very emotional for a large senior class at Kentucky. It’s also likely the last time Kentucky fans will see Benny Snell, Jr. play in person in Lexington.

Javonte Richardson is back at Kentucky | Cats Pause- Bounce back week is off to a great start as wide receiver Javonte Richards recommits to the Cats after leaving the team back in February to work on his academics. He is the number two ranked wide receiver in JUCO.

Deep Dive North Dakota Preview | Cats Illustrated- The Wildcats should handle their business on Wednesday night but the last time Kentucky faced off against an uptempo team (Duke) it didn’t go so well. Needless to say North Dakota doesn’t have Zion Williamson or RJ Barrett to dunk on everyone.

One thing about every SEC team | Saturdays Down South- The hangover from the emotional weeks leading up to the battle for the SEC East against Georgia was real as the Cats looked lifeless and flat against Tennessee.

Week 11 bowl predictions | Cats Pause- Northwestern vs. Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl. I’m all in on the Citrus Bowl. Just not against Northwestern. Again.

What went wrong with Bobby 2.0 | WDRB- Bobby Petrino was fired from the UofL head coaching job on Sunday morning after a disastrous 2-8 season. What went wrong? Everything. Kentucky will be facing a Cardinal team minus their head coach and three coordinators. Losing is not an option.

Petrino gets fired during his weekly TV show | 24/7- As Bobby Petrino’s weekly coaches show was being aired on Sunday, the crawl at the bottom of the screen announced his firing. ULTIMATE TROLL MOVE!!!!!!!

Kentucky soccer double dips | UK Athletics- Big time congrats to the UK Men’s Soccer team as they followed their CUSA conference title with a CUSA tournament title. They defeated Charlotte 1-0.

Hoops Women roll past Southern | UK Athletics- 91-41 was the score as the UK Women’s Basketball team blitzed the visiting Southern squade. Matthew Mitchell is looking to get back into the tournament this season and he has the team to do it.

A cupcake for Kentucky football | Saturdays Down South- It’s going to be a relatively boring week in college football as the season winds down and teams look ahead to rivalry week. The SEC is full of cupcakes and here is what was said about Middle Tennessee State:

Thank you. Thank you very much. Kentucky could use a break after losing its past two games, ending its big dreams of an SEC East title and probably a major bowl. The Wildcats could use a banana cupcake with peanut butter and chocolate to satisfy their sweet tooth. But the Blue Raiders are 7-3 (6-1 Conference USA) so, instead of a cupcake, they could turn out to be a tough cookie.
