Kentucky still getting favorable bowl projections

A New Year’s Day bowl is still in the cards.

Jason Marcum - Sea of Blue

The Kentucky Wildcats were on the cusp of their first New Year’s 6 bowl game in program history. All they had to do was win-out and they’re in. Unfortunately, the Wildcats suffered an extremely bad loss to the Tennessee Volunteers that derailed any hope for a New Year’s bowl.

We can all sit and bicker about who to blame, but Kentucky took a loss and now that affects their bowl game outlooks.

Before the loss to Tennessee, Kentucky was projected to the Fiesta Bowl, with that out of the picture, Kentucky is still in talks to be at the Citrus bowl in Orlando, which I think is very likely.

Here is a breakdown by website of where Kentucky is projected to land:

SBNation:

Citrus Bowl vs Penn State Nittany Lions, January 1st at 1 pm

CBSSports:

Citrus Bowl vs Penn State Nittany Lions, January 1st at 1 pm

Sporting News:

Citrus Bowl vs Michigan State Spartans, January 1st at 1 pm

ESPN:

Outback Bowl vs Michigan State Spartans, January 1st at noon

or

Citrus Bowl vs Northwestern Wildcats, January 1st at 1 pm

Saturdays Down South:

Citrus Bowl vs Penn State Nittany Lions, January 1st at 1 pm

Sports Illustrated:

Belk Bowl vs North Carolina State Wolfpack, December 29th at Noon

If Kentucky wins out, they head to the Citrus Bowl, in my opinion. The Citrus bowl has stated how much they would like to host Kentucky and their fans, so it would be a good fit. And to possibly play against Penn State no less? This is a good compensation prize for not making a NY6 bowl. Plus, the Citrus bowl is far better than the Belk Bowl.
