Recent reports suggested that staffers on the University of Memphis basketball team were calling James Wiseman’s commitment to the Tigers “done.” Wiseman’s mother has seemed to debunk this, however.
Per Evan Daniels of 24/7 Sports, Wiseman is apparently far from being done, as his mother claims that he has not yet decided on a school and is not close to a finalized announcement date.
James Wiseman, No. 1 in the 247Sports Composite, currently does not have an announcement date, nor has he settled on his college choice, his mother Donzaleigh Artis tells @247Sports.

Memphis has continued to build a stronger and stronger case to land Wiseman since the hiring of Penny Hardaway. His EYBL teammate DJ Jeffries, a former Kentucky commit, recently committed to Memphis; which has only seemed to solidify the bond between both parties.
The statement from Donzaleigh Artis, Wiseman’s mother, could just be simply an attempt to clear smoke and keep her son’s commitment pure. It could also mean that those on Memphis’ behalf should not be as confident as they appear to be. Nobody but Wiseman and his family can say for sure but the sequentiality of both reports is certainly odd.
Wiseman still has the likes of Kansas, Vanderbilt and Florida State still on his final list but this has seemingly been a battle between Memphis and Kentucky since the beginning. He is the consensus top prospect in the 2019 recruiting class and would be by far the best commitment Memphis has had since John Calipari left that program; and would honestly be up there even on Kentucky’s list of best freshmen recruits.
Wiseman is a special player.
