It’s safe to say this has been one of the rougher weeks for UK Athletics in recent memory.
Thankfully, there was some good to come out of it, mainly being Kentucky’s furious second-half rally on Friday to beat a veteran Southern Illinois team.
A driving force behind that — figuratively and literally — was the play of freshman Immanuel Quickley and Keldon Johnson.
Quickley, making his first start at point guard, racked up 16 points on 6/10 shooting to go with four rebounds and two steals. He may very well have established himself as Kentucky’s No. 1 point guard, which is something the Wildcats hope to have sorted out very soon.
As for Johnson, who is now Kentucky’s leading scorer, finished with 15 points on 5/10 shooting with four rebounds, two assists and one steal. He’s established himself as Kentucky’s best player through the first two games.
