The college basketball season is approaching fast with the week of Big Blue Madness now here.
Before the big festivities on Friday, fans were treated to a sneak peak at the 2018-19 Kentucky Wildcats during Sunday’s UK Pro Day and open practice. There, we saw the Wildcats go through various testing drills and even got to see the team in action during an open practice.
What we saw will only add to the excitement for next season, and even John Calipari can’t contain himself. Not long after the practice ended, Calipari took to Twitter to express his thoughts on the team and what’s making them stand out while also tempering expectations.
“Hope our fans enjoyed UK Pro Day. I don’t want anyone to get too crazy. We still have a long way to go,” said Calipari. I know you watched their competitive spirit and it makes you feel like, ‘Wow, are we really going to be good in a month.’
“That’s a good thought, but we’re not there yet. I love how this team competes and battles, yet off the court, they’re as close as any team I’ve coached.”
But all fans wanted to know about was the status of Keldon Johnson, who went down with a lower-leg injury as practice ended. It turns out it was just a minor ankle injury.
“By the way, Keldon tweaked his ankle at the end but he should be OK.”
The Big Blue Nation can breathe a sigh of relief and remain very optimistic about what this year’s team is about to accomplish.
