The Kentucky Wildcats Football team has gotten off to their hottest start since 2007. They’re 5-0 with quality wins over 3 SEC teams in Florida, Mississippi State, and South Carolina.

From start to finish in each of those games Kentucky has looked like the better team. The fans and the University are ecstatic after this hot start, but while the players and coaches are too, they know they still have a lot of work to do.

Earlier this week, head coach Mark Stoops hopped onto the Paul Finebaum show to talk about his team.

When asked about the mindset of his Wildcats following their 5-0 start, Stoops sounded very pleased

“We’ve played good, but the team is still hungry. They know we can play a lot better and we’re looking forward to that.”

This is exactly what you want to hear from the coach. Yes, it has been a fun ride, but the season is far from over. Now is not the time to settle. In fact, it’s time to put the pedal to the floor and see just how good this Kentucky team really is.

“They’re a mature group and they work extremely hard,” Stoops said of his team. “I believed in them because I saw how hungry they were and how they went about summer workouts and camp and I felt real good about us.”

Winning is one thing, but it seems as if these players have now adapted to a winning mindset. Despite being at Kentucky where everyone ‘overlooks’ them, each player talks with a certain confidence in themselves and their team. More importantly, Mark has done an outstanding job instilling these traits and this mindset within his players by believing in them when it seemed like no one else did.

With one of Kentucky’s toughest road games coming up this Saturday in College Station, here’s how Mark Stoops said they were preparing for it

“It’s going to be a real challenge playing at Kyle field, so we have to worry about ourselves and executing, doing the things we can do.”

It’s going to be a crazy atmosphere Saturday night. While Texas A&M has two losses, both of them have been by the hands of #4 Clemson and #1 Alabama.

Kentucky has the #1 rushing offense in the SEC and A&M has the #1 rushing defense in the SEC. Get your popcorn ready, it’s going to be a show!
