What more can be said about Josh Allen?

He was rated as a two star recruit in high school but the 6’5”, 260-pound linebacker has developed and come to flourish in this his senior season.

Just to run through his stats and rankings on the season one more time:

  • Allen leads the SEC and ranks second in the nation in sacks with 10 on the season
  • He leads the SEC and ranks third in the nation in tackles for loss with 14.5 on the season
  • He ranks second in the nation in fumbles forced with 5 on the season
  • Allen is the only player in the FBS since 2000 to have at least 56 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, five forced fumbles and four passes defended in his team’s first eight games of a season

Allen is quickly turning in one of the most impressive seasons in Kentucky football history and the country is starting to take notice. He has earned first-team midseason All-America honors from the Associated Press, ESPN.com, Pro Football Focus, CBS Sports and The Athletic.

Allen has also been named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week three times this season. And he is on the watch lists for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, the Bednarik Award, and the Butkus Award.

Adding to this list is a weekly occurrence for Allen. After his 11 tackle, 2 sack, 2 fumbles forced performance at Missouri, Allen was named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week. He is the first Kentucky Wildcat to receive the award since 2004.

While Allen is on the watchlist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy for the whole season, he is also up for the Lott IMPACT Player of the Week. And the Big Blue Nation can help Allen win this award this week.

Allen also has a message for the Big Blue Nation this week, as the Kentucky Wildcats are set to host the Georgia Bulldogs with the SEC East at stake.
