The Kentucky Wildcats kicked off exhibition play with a 94-66 win over Transy on Friday night. The Wildcats had six players in double figures, led by Reid Travis with 12 points and 10 rebounds, the first of many double-doubles for him this season.
While the Wildcats only won by 28 and never really seemed to put the game away, there were many bright spots throughout. I never try to put too much stock into exhibition games, especially considering this same team destroyed four professional teams in the Bahamas back in August. This team has so much potential, but they may need a little more time to get there.
Here’s what social media had to say about this Cats’ performance:
Kentucky fans overreacting to an exhibition? Basketball season is back, baby!

This team has me excited. I can fake excited with the best of ‘em. But I sincerely love this Kentucky Basketball squad. Weirdly competitive and astute. This is a throwback team. Not even sure what that means. It’s just a throwback team. Full stop. pic.twitter.com/CRfXKXj9uB

With tonight’s win Kentucky just took (for the first time in history) the Lead in the Head to Head series with Transy, 8-7

Kentucky going to have to play zone with this team against Duke.

If they can keep Transy players out of the paint no-way they going to keep R.J. Barrett and Zion Williamson out of there.
Tonight is serving as a little pump-the-brakes moment for No. 2 Kentucky. Now 1 for 11 from three and Transy is 8 of 30 to make it 80-55 Cats, 3:51 to go against a D3 team whose tallest player is 6-6. No reason to overreact, but plenty of teachable moments for John Calipari.

Are #OldManFacts about Reid Travis going to be the go-to UK basketball commentary this season like WCS playing wide receiver or Skal surviving the earthquake? #TUvsUK

Keldon Johnson for @KentuckyMBB out there looking like MKG.

We'd say that qualifies as a good start. Double-double for ya boy @2ReidTravis2 tonight. ✊ pic.twitter.com/89fiDNKaWf

Asked Quade if he watches “Seinfeld” with Reid Travis. No, he said. “Who’s in that?” Upon hearing that, Travis shook his head. “I don’t know how to help him.” Said Quade would love George Costanza. He’d introduce him via the “Soup Nazi” episode.

Kentucky finishes off Transy 94-66. It's not worth getting worked up about an exhibition game, but Cats have plenty of work to do before Duke.

It’s going to be hard to keep EJ Montgomery off the floor

You know you’re in Kentucky when you have to stream the WORLD SERIES on your phone because the people at the bar won’t let you turn it on over a preseason Kentucky baseketball game vs. Transylvania when UK is up by 30!
— Kelsey Wingert (@KelsWingert) October 27, 2018
There's a college basketball game going on between Kentucky and Transylvania, and if Transylvania's mascot is not a vampire I don't know what this world is about anymore.

.@2ReidTravis2 says tonight’s full-court pressure against Transy is a step in the right direction as UK looks to improve conditioning and toughness. #BBN @ASeaOfBlue pic.twitter.com/3G0pLcaCm1
