Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the Tuesday Morning Quickies.
Today, we look at the too-early question — speculation, really — about where the 2018 Kentucky team could wind up when compared to the best teams in school history.
The Courier-Journal has an article today detailing the five best teams in school history, and with so few really good seasons to choose from, this isn’t a particularly difficult exercise. In fact, there appear to be only about 12 teams with 8 or more wins in a season in the history of UK football.
AT 5-0 and with one top-25 victory already, the Wildcats of 2018 are clearly positioned to move into a place on this list. In point of fact, they have already won as many SEC games as the #5 1984 team, the only team on the list without a winning SEC record.
A win at Texas A&M, which would guarantee at least a .500 SEC season and bowl eligibility, would really improve the Wildcats’ chances at a spot on this list. Assuming a win at Middle Tennessee and at least one among Louisville and Tennessee (both who seem down this season), it’s easy to see UK with eight wins minimum. Vanderbilt, which also looks very dooable, could represent the ninth win of the year. Missouri is also a winnable game for sure, but I’ve got to figure if we manage a road win against TAMU, somebody’s going to get us on the road this year.
9-3 with, say, 5-3 or 6-2 in the SEC, would be a season worthy of #3 on the Courier-Journal’s list. With a bowl game win, I still don’t think it reaches the 10-1 year of 1977, but I could make an argument for it.
This has already been a special season so far for UK, and barring injuries, it looks to get even more special. I honestly doubted, more than once, if I would live long enough to see something like this. I still might not, but it’s looking really good right now!
Of course, if all this good comes to pass, Mark Stoops is going to become a hot commodity, indeed. I’m just going to leave that right there for you to keep in the back of your mind.

Yikes!
Your Quickies:
Kentucky football
- Josh Allen earns SEC Defensive Player of the Week, and George Asafo-adjei gets the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week.
- Texas A&M’s #1 rushing defense to face Kentucky’s powerful offense. Something’s gotta give.
- Saturday’s game will be the first meeting between Kentucky and Texas A&M in 65 years.
- Kentucky is built to last and challenge Georgia in the SEC East.
- All Americans? First rounders? When was Kentucky football’s last time?
- Kirk Herbstreit’s top performers. UK is #2.
- A reservation for Kentucky to make the CFB championship game is going for $3 right now.
- A&M is a 6-point favorite to beat UK this weekend. It’s going to be a tough game, no doubt, mainly because of how far away it is. Interestingly, not much disrespect from the TAMU fans, in fact, none that I could see. Been a while since we’ve seen that missing from SEC sites.
- Kentucky has gone from the “Air Raid” to the thundering caveman offense.
- Can one of UK’s strongest players exploit one of A&M’s biggest weaknesses?
- Kentucky all over the place in College Football Empires map.
Kentucky basketball
- Isaiah Stewart (#5 prospect in 2019) came back from Lexington and is seen as a UK lean.
- SI talks about the top college basketball uniforms of 2018. Maybe UK should bring back the denim…
Other Kentucky sports
- Kalil ElMedkhar named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week. ElMedkhar had a part in all five of Kentucky’s goals last week.
- No. 7 Kentucky soccer takes on No. 2 Indiana on Wednesday.
- Leah Edmond and Madison Lilley have earned SEC honors in Volleyball.

- Interesting:
Really like Georgia’s pick up for Toumani Camara. Good size for a wing. Tough, physical & athletic. Competes. Lot of defensive potential. Bulldogs now with two four-stars in 2019.

Other news
- Some particles detected in Antarctica don’t appear to fit the Standard Model.
- A new fear — One scientist thinks that the Large Hadron Collider could create a black hole that consumes the earth. Or, alternatively, could turn the earth into “strange” matter, or even destroy the universe.
I wouldn’t lose sleep over it. If it happens, you won’t feel a thing.
