Kentucky Basketball Recruiting: UK visits E.J. Montgomery

John Calipari is in hot pursuit of the elite big man, but so too are other blue bloods.

The Kentucky Wildcats continue to ramp up their interest in E.J. Montgomery.

However, Kentucky is one of many blue-blood programs vying for the five-star forward. It was reported last week that Kentucky was among a host of schools to offer Montgomery a scholarship recently.

Now, Kentucky’s coaching staff was in to see Montgomery on Wednesday, according to Evan Daniels.

The North Carolina Tar Heels and Duke Blue Devils also recently offered Montgomery, so this will be a hard-fought battle for the top-15 prospect, who’s ranked as high as No. 6 overall by 247 Sports (lowest is 16th by ESPN).

Duke is actually the school getting the crystal ball picks recently, but that’s likely due to his only scheduled visit upcoming is with them. If he makes it out of there without committing and visits more schools, then it will get really interesting.

Every indication given thus far is Montgomery will let this one play out into the spring, and possibly the summer. After all, Kentucky, Duke and possibly North Carolina could have players leaving for the NBA Draft, so the frontcourt of all three teams could change dramatically between now and the NBA Draft deadline in late May.

All said, I think Kentucky has a very real shot in this recruitment. They need more frontcourt help next season, and Montgomery is easily the best big man left on the board.
