NBA Draft 2018: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander a lottery pick?

One hoops expert thinks UK’s rising star could become a high NBA Draft pick.

NCAA Basketball: Georgia at Kentucky Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

Coming into the season, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the best (or worst) kept secret on this Kentucky Basketball team.

It’s hard to be a true sleeper when everyone is calling you the sleeper on the team, but Alexander continued to draw high praise leading up to the season while also still somewhat flying under the radar.

Obviously, over the last two games, Alexander has had two breakout performances. Against Louisville and Georgia, he’s combined for 45 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, and 6 steals, with only two turnovers.

Alexander was already arguably the team’s best defender but with his offensive showcases the last two games, it is fair to argue that he is Kentucky’s best player as of right now.

As such, Alexander has been drawing high praise and most recently, 247’s Director of Scouting Jerry Meyer said that Alexander could be viewed as a lottery pick by the end of the season.

"By the end of the season, he may be looked at as a fringe lottery pick. I think his stock is going to be to a point where it would be tough for him not to declare with how he projects as a prospect," Meyer told Chris Fisher.

If Shai continues to produce at the level he is currently playing at, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to see him picked near the lottery, but especially if he continues to develop his three-point shot, which seems to be better than what most had projected.
