The Kentucky Wildcats have suffered a big decommitment in the Class of 2018.
On Sunday, Xavier Peters flipped his commitment to the Florida State Seminoles, according to Josh Newberg of 247 Sports.
The four-star linebacker was regarded as one of, if not the best recruit that UK had secured a pledge from in 2018. He was also a big reason why UK’s class was ranked in the top-30 of every major service, but now, they’ll likely fall out with National Signing Day just over a week away.
Saying this, it was no surprise to see Peters flip to another school. When he didn’t sign with UK in the early signing period, that was a clear sign he wasn’t all in with UK.
Then, reports came that he planned to visit other schools, including Florida and Miami. As it turned out, the Sunshine State school he picked would be Willie Taggart’s program.
Now, UK will likely turn up the heat on a pair of four-star linebackers/defensive ends to finish the class in Chris Oats and Leonard Taylor. UK is strongly in the mix for both players with a week to go before the majority of high school recruits will have faxed in their national letters of intent.
There’s still time for Mark Stoops and his staff to secure a top-25 recruiting class, but it won’t be easy with Peters reportedly out of the mix.
