Kentucky still has a chance to come out of 2018 with one more game-changing recruit.
The most likely scenario for John Calipari to sign an elite prospect is James Wiseman. Currently a 2019 recruit, Wiseman is mulling over a reclassification into the 2018 class.
In his weekly mailbag, noted recruiting analyst Evan Daniels of 247 Sports was asked about the possibility of Wiseman reclassifying.
Daniels was pretty blunt in his answer, saying he doesn’t think it is a possibility.
“Truthfully, I haven’t heard of this being a legitimate option behind the scenes. Anything is possible in recruiting, but as of today I don’t have any reason to believe that it’s a possibility.”
Wiseman has made several statements that he plans on staying in 2019 to different reporters. However, there are reasons that he could be doing this, but the way that he has approached it leads me to think that Wiseman is being honest. We will see though, as I am sure John Calipari has been talking with Wiseman about how he would fit on next year’s team if he did decide to reclassify.
Additionally, Daniels said that right now, he only sees Kevin Knox as a sure-fire lock to enter the NBA Draft at the end of the season, while Hamidou Diallo has seen his stock dip a little and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has now thrown himself into the first round projections.
You can read about E.J. Montgomery from this piece we posted earlier. Kentucky has officially offered him and is one of 11 schools in the mix. Duke seems to be in a good place with him, as right now they are one of the first to lock down a visit.
Hopefully Kentucky can lock down a visit with Montgomery. He is rapidly improving and would be a great addition to the 2018 class.
