The Kentucky Wildcats are still in the running for Zion Williamson, technically.
The elite wing and consensus top-three recruit in 2018 is set to make his decision on Jan. 20th. He’s believed to be down to UK and Clemson, though it’s the latter that appears to be the heavy favorite right now, so much that the decision may already be made.
That’s news to Zion. In his first public interview in weeks, Zion opened up about his recruitment, which he claims is still wide open. He also disputed the notion that he’s down to just two schools.
“I’m going to be honest with y’all, I don’t know who released those six schools (UNC, Duke, Kansas, UK, Clemson, South Carolina),” Zion told The State. “The last time I checked my recruitment was still wide open, but I’m still considering everybody, just listening to their final messages and what they have to tell me.”
That would seem to be good news for UK, as Clemson has been the only school getting buzz in this recruitment for several months. Between UK possibly returning the majority of its roster next season, along with Clemson having one of its best seasons in decades, the Tigers have all of the momentum if a decision is made this month.
That said, it’s only buzz, and unless Zion has already committed to Clemson, you can’t count out UK.
Just don’t count on UK being the pick either.
