The newest college basketball AP Top 25 Poll is out, and somehow, the Kentucky Wildcats have dropped a spot.
Despite a pair of wins over Louisville and Georgie, the Cats surprisingly fell to the No. 17 spot in the newest AP Poll. It’s very rare for a team to win consecutive games in the middle of a season and still drop, but UK getting no respect is nothing new this season.
As for the top, the Michigan State Spartans are your new No. 1 team. The Villanova Wildcats dropped to No. 3 following their upset loss at Butler.
Here is the entire AP Poll:
1 Michigan State Spartans
3 Villanova Wildcats
17 Kentucky Wildcats
tie 19 Gonzaga Bulldogs
tie 19 Cincinnati Bearcats
The newest ESPN power rankings weren’t much better, as UK remained at No. 18:
18. Kentucky Wildcats
Record: 11-2
Last week: 18
Things are starting to come together for John Calipari's Wildcats, although a 29-point win over Louisville isn't what it used to be. More importantly, Kentucky really defended on Friday, contesting shots, not letting the Cardinals get anything easy. The key offensively is still shooting the ball; Kentucky made 46.2 percent against Louisville.
The good news is these polls and rankings will help the young Cats stay grounded, seeing that no one seems to think they’re that good.
