The No. 8 player in the class of 2018 (according to the 247 Sports Composite) is about to get a visit from John Calipari.
Simi Shittu, 5-star forward from the Vermont Academy, is going to get a visit from Calipari in the fall recruiting period, which begins on Saturday. Vermont Academy head coach Alex Popp said the school’s first open gym would be on Tuesday, according to Ben Roberts of the Lexington Herald-Leader.
Calipari watched Shittu in July, and Kenny Payne has been at several of his games, but Shittu doesn’t officially have an offer yet. That’s likely to change once Shittu visits Kentucky, according to Roberts, as it’s believed that Shittu will be an extended an offer during his visit (much like Keldon Johnson).
Popp said Shittu would probably commit to a specific visit date soon, and that the plan is to take that UK trip this fall, before the start of his senior season. “That’s kind of what we’re looking at,” he said.
Shittu is down to Kentucky, Arizona, Arizona State, New Mexico, Notre Dame, Oregon, South Carolina UConn and Vanderbilt.
His head coach said if he found the right fit in the fall, he’d commit early, otherwise he’ll wait until he finds that fit.
