This recruitment may not end anytime soon.

UK has yet to offer Simisola Shittu, but he’s still very interested in what John Calipari and his program have to offer.

The five-star forward out of Vermont Academy (VT) is ranked seventh overall in the 2018 class by 247 Composite, which factors in all of the major recruiting services. Among the schools recruiting Shittu are Arizona, Oregon, North Carolina, and of course, UK.

In an interview with 247’s Andrew Slater, Shittu opened up about his recruitment, a potential timeline for his decision, and the impact Calipari made by flying up to Canada to watch the talented forward play in a recruiting event this summer.

It was there that Calipari made his pitch for Shittu coming to UK, and it had a lasting impression.

“Just saying how much they want me,” said Shittu. “They feel like I could make a major impact at Kentucky. It showed me a lot that he was willing and able to come up to watch me play during that time.

“And I could make an impact there because of how versatile I am and stuff like that, and they want me to come visit in the fall.”

Shittu went on to say that a decision is planned for the spring, but it’s possible one comes this fall.

“I think so, but there's nothing set in stone,” said Shittu of deciding in the spring. “That's the plan, though, for now.”

It’s probably good news for UK that Shittu isn’t deciding anytime soon. UK could have only 4-5 spots in next year’s class. It’s possible that some combination of R.J. Barrett, Zion Williamson, Immanuel Quickley, Keldon Johnson, Bol Bol and/or Quentin Grimes could fill them this fall. That means UK may not be able to offer Shittu until the spring when they have a better idea of how many guys will leave for the NBA Draft.

However, I do think it’s possible UK offers Shittu this fall when he visits. That could set the stage for a fall decision.
