Winning ain’t easy, and winning on the road in Week 1 can prove to be challenging for any team.
So, you’ll have to forgive Mark Stoops and the Kentucky Wildcats for being pretty exuberant after their 24-17 win at Southern Miss:

After the celebration concluded, Stoops spoke with the media about UK’s win in Hattiesburg. It wasn’t a pretty game, especially from the offense, but it was a win, and it was thanks in large part to the defense, Stoops’ bread and butter.
“That shows a lot of character, a lot of guts, a lot of determination from that football team to come out and win that game when you’re not playing your best football,” said Stoops. “It’s certainly not on the offensive side of the ball. I’m not worried. I know we’ll get better. We’ll get some things fixed, and we’ll go from there.
“I really was just proud. The improvement defensively was very, very evident. We would’ve never won this game had we not improved our run defense. We certainly did that.”
