Kentucky Wildcats Football vs Eastern Michigan Primer, Stats and Facts

The Cats and Eagles clash in Lexington.

Florida week has come and gone, and now it’s time for Kentucky to move on and assure that last week isn’t the representative of this entire season.

The Wildcats have a great opportunity to do that this week against Eastern Michigan. But it won’t be a cakewalk; EMU is 2-1 with a win over Rutgers on the road earlier this year. But Kentucky can look to work out the problems that caused the loss to Florida in this inaugural matchup between the two teams.

Kentucky Wildcats

  • Kentucky has not played a MAC opponent since 2014 (Beat Ohio 20-3).
  • Kentucky is third in the SEC and 15th in the nation in turnover margin (+5).
  • Stephen Johnson is looking for his 11th win, ninth as a starter.
  • Josh Allen is tied for second in the SEC in sacks, and is tied for fifth in tackles for loss. He ranks 12th nationally in sacks.
  • Kentucky ranks ninth in run defense, allowing 89.2 yards per game. They were ranked third before giving up 186 yards on the ground to Florida.
  • Charles Walker leads the SEC in yards per punt return (21.5).
  • Garrett “Juice” Johnson has upped his catch streak to 15 consecutive games. He’s 10 catches away from moving into the top 10 on Kentucky’s all-time receptions list.
  • Johnson is also just 32 yards away from moving into the top five on Kentucky’s all-time receiving yards list.
  • Last Saturday, Austin MacGinnis set the Kentucky record for career field goals made with 58. He’s second on Kentucky’s all-time scoring list, and needs just 14 more points to surpass Lones Seiber for first place.
  • Jordan Jones is not on this week’s depth chart after suffering a shoulder injury against EKU. Derrick Baity is on the depth chart after suffering a head injury last week.
  • Benny Snell ranks seventh in the SEC in rushing yards per game (82.8).
  • Kentucky currently has the 14th-toughest schedule in the nation, according to NCAA rankings.
  • C.J. Conrad is within one touchdown of his 2016 touchdown total, and 67 yards of his 2016 yardage total.

Eastern Michigan Eagles

  • This is Eastern Michigan’s first matchup against Kentucky.
  • EMU is coming off a seven-win season and an appearance at the Bahamas Bowl.
  • EMU fell to C.J. Conrad’s brother, Austin Conrad, and the Ohio Bobcats last week, 27-20 in OT.
  • EMU safety Brody Hoying has forced at least one turnover in each of the first three games, including an interception in games one and two, and forced two fumbles in game three against Ohio.
  • Hoying also leads the team in tackles with 21. As of Sept. 24, Hoying is just one of three players in Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) ranks with at least two forced fumbles and two interceptions.
  • EMU has five interceptions and two fumbles recovered through three games.
  • Quarterback Brogan Roback has totaled 798 passing yards this year. For his career, he has 6,561 passing yards and 40 passing touchdowns, which ranks third all-time in program history for each category.
  • Shag Vann is the team’s leading rusher with 186 rushing yards.
  • Kentucky’s stout run defense will have a good matchup against EMU, as they had just 45 rushing yards against Ohio.
  • EMU will look to add another notch in its belt after defeating its first ‘Power 5’ opponent in program history earlier this season against Rutgers, by trying to knock off its first SEC team in its 10th try.
