John Calipari and his staff are already looking forward to the 2019 class, even as the signing period is about to open for the 2018 class. Kentucky has extended offers to six players in the 2019 class, including number one ranked recruit James Wiseman. And it seems there is interest in adding another player to that list.
Christian Brown is a 6’6”, 200-pound small forward from Columbia, South Carolina. He is a top-five small forward and is currently ranked 18th overall in the 2019 class by the 247 Sports Composite. And, according to Chris Fisher with CatsPause.com, Kentucky assistant Joel Justus is set to visit Brown at AC Flora High School in Columbia.
Brown is a gifted athlete and has a high motor. Just watching some of his highlights shows what a special talent he is. He doesn’t quit on the offensive or defensive side of the ball; he moves well and can be a force defensively on the perimeter as well as down low.
And, since he’s only a junior in high school, he still has plenty of time to fill out his frame to solidify his defensive presence down low. He can finish at the rim and can also stretch the floor and shoot from distance as well. Brown was in Colorado over the summer for the Team USA training camp where Calipari got a taste of the player Brown could develop into.
Obviously, a visit doesn’t necessarily guarantee an offer or that Brown will even commit to UK, but the interest is there and Justus’s visit on Tuesday could lead to Brown joining the list of scholarship offers to the 2019 class.
Currently Brown holds offers from a number of top schools, including six SEC schools. Early Crystal Ball predictions from 247sports.com have Brown going to either Auburn or UK, but it really is too early to tell. We’ll see what happens as Calipari continues to burn up the recruiting trail.
Here are some of Brown’s highlights from the Team USA training camp in July:
