After meeting with John Calipari and Kenny Payne at his home over the weekend, 5-star point guard Quentin Grimes announced he will be visiting Kentucky Sept. 29 for an official visit, according to Chris Fisher of Cats Pause.
Interestingly, that’s the same time he was scheduled to visit Kansas—the presumed favorite in his recruitment—for their Late Night in the Phog Event.
That’s not to say that Kentucky has overtaken Kansas as the leader for Grimes, but Kentucky seems to be ramping up their interest with Grimes.
"It went really well," Grimes said of his visit with the UK staff.
Grimes’ top seven consists of Arizona, Baylor, Kansas, Kentucky, Marquette, Texas and Texas A&M.
Elsewhere, Scout recruiting guru Evan Daniels spoke with the Lexington Herald-Leader about Grimes’ recruitment. While Kentucky is still in the mix, Daniels has a hard time seeing the combo guard end up in Lexington for college.
“It would be a surprise to me at this stage,” Daniels said. “But they’re certainly still trying, and they’re still recruiting him and he’s clearly listening. So, they’re certainly attempting it.”
However, Daniels isn’t so sure that Kansas is the clear-cut favorite that everyone makes them out to be.
“I don’t know if there’s a clear favorite,” Daniels said. “Kansas is certainly pretty deep in there. I think we’ll know a little bit more about Quentin Grimes’ situation when he sets up official visits, which should be very soon.”
