The latest bowl projections are out following Week 2 of the college football season, and some outlets are projecting Kentucky to fall short of a bowl bid this year.
Bowl projections for SB Nation and College Football News do not list Kentucky in their latest set of bowl projections.
Kentucky has not looked the best during its first two games, but they still stand 2-0 going into Columbia, South Carolina to face the 2-0 Gamecocks on Saturday.
However, in other bowl projections, David M. Hale from ESPN projects Kentucky to the Belk Bowl in a matchup of basketball powerhouses against Duke. Admittedly, I kind of like the idea of this due to the fact that it would draw a ton of publicity with the Kentucky-Duke basketball rivalry. That bowl matchup would be one I would be in favor of, though the Belk Bowl seems highly unlikely due to it being the same day as the UK-UL basketball game and almost at the same time.
ESPN’s other writer in the bowl projections, Kyle Bonagura, doesn’t list Kentucky in his bowl projections.
Over at CBS Sports, Jerry Palm places Kentucky in the Texas Bowl matched up against West Virginia. This would also be an interesting matchup against the Mountaineers in Houston.
Kentucky’s rough start has some people doubting their potential to make it to six wins this season, and honestly, at times this team has looked like it could struggle to get there. With South Carolina and Vanderbilt looking better than originally thought, Kentucky’s schedule looks tougher than it did before the season.
But last year, the Wildcats were 0-2 after a historic collapse against Southern Miss and a 45-7 beatdown against Florida. There’s still time for the Wildcats to work out their flaws and put together a really good season.
