The 4-star shooting guard is ranked No. 13 in the nation by the 247 Sports composite. He received an offer from Kentucky during a surprise visit on Aug. 22.
Kentucky surged in his recruitment following the offer, but Texas has had the latest buzz with Johnson. They lead Kentucky 45 percent to 33 percent on his crystal ball. Maryland is also in contention, getting 18 percent of the predictions.
Johnson has 27 offers, including offers from Louisville, Kansas and Indiana. He has also scheduled official visits to Florida State and Maryland for the month of September.
Another big-time recruit getting a visit from Kentucky this is week is Bol Bol. According to Ben Roberts of the Lexington Herald-Leader, John Calipari will visit Bol in California later this week.
Kentucky was thought to be falling out of this recruitment, so a visit from Calipari is a great sign that he’s still very interested in the elite big man. For what it’s worth, right as this news came out, Scout recruiting guru Evan Daniels changed his crystal ball pick to ‘foggy’ for Bol after previous picking Arizona, the perceived favorite in this recruitment.
