Kentucky Basketball Recruiting Updates on Zion Williamson and James Wiseman

A huge week for UK with arguably the two best players in high school hoops.

This could be a big week for Kentucky Basketball’s future.

According to Ben Roberts of the Lexington Herald-Leader, UK had a Saturday visit with James Wiseman, the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2019. Assistant coach Joel Justus was who met with Wiseman, who is ranked No. 1 overall by ESPN and No. 2 by 247 Sports Composite, which factors in all major recruiting services.

It certainly looks like things are trending upwards for the Cats with Wiseman already getting a visit. UK has also watched him in Argentina and on the Nike circuit. It will be interesting to see how far UK can get with James, considering they haven’t secured a top-ranked recruit in quite some time.

Elsewhere, arguably the top recruit in 2018 will also meet with UK this week. According to Phil Kornblut of Go Upstate, Williamson will host UK for an in-home visit this week. He’s set to meet with Duke on Monday, followed by Kansas on Tuesday. Those are perceived to be the biggest threats to UK for Williamson, who is coming off an unofficial visit to Clemson:

Williamson may come to South Carolina’s home opener this Saturday when they host UK, but that’s still up in the air.

With the recruiting season heating up, every opportunity to get in front of these guys really matter, especially Williamson. With the game being played at South Carolina, you can’t help but think that if Kentucky wins, it has the potential to affect Zion’s decision. A culture of winning is very important for any recruit, no matter the sport.

It’s worth noting that ESPN recently released its rankings for all high school basketball prospects, which is not based on position or class. Williamson and Wiseman both made the top five.

This is a huge week for the Cats, hopefully they’re able to make some major moves with two of the top recruits for the next two years.
