Stanley Garner has made silent commitment; Will Kentucky Wildcats be pick for elite corner?

The big-time corner holds offers from Alabama, Clemson and Michigan, but Kentucky may be the pick.

One of the top cornerbacks in the Class of 2018 has made his decision. Now, it’s just a matter of letting everyone else know.

According to Rivals’ Rob Cassidy, four-star cornerback Stanley Garner has made a silent pledge to a school. Cassidy added that, “The smart money here seems to be on Kentucky.”

Garner has already notified the coaches at the school he picked, but the decision won’t be revealed publicly until August 16th. The Dillard High School (FL) product is rated as a four-star recruit by Rivals and the 31st-best corner in 2018.

Garner’s five finalists include the Kentucky Wildcats, Michigan Wolverines, Clemson Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Louisville Cardinals. He also holds scholarship offers from Tennessee, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan State, South Carolina and West Virginia.

At 247 Sports, Garner’s crystal ball is all Wildcats. He unofficially visited Kentucky back in July in addition to a football camp in June. Garner has also camped with Miami, Louisville, Alabama and an FIU camp that had Ohio State and Alabama coaches.

With just over a week before that decision date, it makes sense that Garner has made his pledge. Most recruits know where they’re going a week out from their decision, though keeping this talented corner until National Signing Day could be a major challenge.

Garner has yet to take any of his official visits but plans to do so following his commitment. That means whoever lands him will still have a lot of work to do in keeping his pledge while he visits other schools.

Kentucky is no stranger to that under Mark Stoops. They’re used to holding off big-name programs to keep their biggest recruits. Seeing schools like Alabama, Clemson and Michigan speaks to how hard it will be to keep Garner for whoever lands him.

Garner is actually one of two corners set to announce their college choice in August. Jamari Brown will announce on August 17th, and that looks like a Kentucky - Auburn battle.

This could be a big recruiting month for Stoops and his staff. Be sure to read the full Rivals interview, in which Garner hints pretty strongly at where he’s going.
