Finally, game week has arrived.
The Kentucky Wildcats return to action this week when they face the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in Hattiesburg. The game kicks off Saturday afternoon, but in the meantime, UK has unveiled the Week 1 depth chart and roster.
With it came few surprises, but there were some notable developments. At free safety, it’s Darius West OR Davonte Robinson for the starting spot. The expectation was for West to win this, but it looks like Robinson, a former Bryan Station standout, is very much in the running.
On the offensive line, it’s Kyle Meadows OR Landon Young at left tackle, along with Bunchy Stallings OR Nick Haynes at both right guard and center. It’s clear that UK hasn’t settled on replacements for Jon Toth and Cole Mosier just yet, so expect these positions to feature multiple players getting significant snaps for at least the first couple of games.
As expected, the running back spot has Benny Snell and Sihiem King occupying the top spots. King was able to hold off promising redshirt freshman A.J. Rose for the backup spot, but expect Ross to play a lot this year.
At quarterback, it's Stephen Johnson followed by Drew Barker. Johnson will keep his job as long as he plays well and avoids turnovers, but Barker is lurking if the turnover bug rears its ugly head.
