Summer is the time when we see most college freshmen go through the NCAA clearinghouse and get cleared.
The Kentucky Wildcats annually have a host of new players coming in, all of which have to make it through the NCAA before being fully cleared for the upcoming season.
Nick Richards is no different, and it sounds like he’s just now been cleared by the NCAA, according to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein.
Kentucky freshman Nick Richards has been fully cleared by the NCAA, per his high school coach. #BBN— Jon Rothstein (@JonRothstein) August 24, 2017
There were never any reported issues with Richards’ grades, high school or his eligibility. in the past, Kentucky has had several freshmen not gain clearance from the NCAA until September or even October, but thankfully, that won’t be an issue with Richards.
Kentucky is certainly counting on the freshman center to make a big impact in the paint this coming season. The 6-11, 240-pound Richards the early favorite to be Kentucky’s starting 5 when the 2017-18 season begins.
At worse, he’ll be getting significant minutes off the bench. His defensive potential is through the roof, and he’s starting to get hyped up as a one-and-done NBA prospect.
