Jairus Brents and Blue Smith are both moving forward in their recruitment process; Brents has cut his list to 10, and Smith is making his decision this week. Both are apart of the 2018 recruiting class.
For Brents, his list includes Kentucky, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Oregon, Alabama, Oklahoma, Indiana, USC, Pitt and Purdue. Brents is a Louisville, KY native from Waggener High School. He’s ranked the No. 22 corner in the nation by 247 Sports.
Shockingly, Louisville was not on the list, despite the fact that many experts thought that’s where he’d ultimately end up.
As for 4-star wide receiver Blue Smith, he’ll choose between Cincinnati, Ohio State and Kentucky this week. Ohio State may have an advantage because they promised him he could play wide receiver, according to Joe Mussatto of SEC Country, with some help from Bill Greene of Scout.com.
Greene’s reasoning for picking Ohio State came down to positions. While Kentucky has long recruited Smith as a wide receiver, Ohio State was considering him at tight end — a position Smith doesn’t want to play. But coach Urban Meyer and Co. have since made it clear that Smith could play receiver if he stays at his current weight.
However, few people seem to really have good reasoning for going one way or the other between Kentucky and Ohio State. Greene said he believes “it’s mostly guesswork” when it comes to expert predictions right now.
Smith has good relationships with Kentucky’s coaching staff members, and his high school teammate Alex Reigelsperger is apart of the 2018 class already, so don’t go writing off Kentucky just yet.
Smith will decide Sunday, Aug. 27.
