With August now here, we should get some closure on Marvin Bagley fairly soon.
Schools will be starting classes back up in the coming weeks, making it likely a final decision from Bagley comes around the fourth week of the month. By then, all of Bagley’s remaining schools in contention will have began class, including USC and Arizona on Aug. 21, followed by Kentucky and Duke a week later.
Now, it appears Arizona is out of the running, according to Adam Zagoria. The Pac-12 Wildcats have every scholarship accounted for next season, so they’d have to pull someone’s scholarship just to be in the running for Bagley, who appears to be trending elsewhere.
Zagoria also writes that Kentucky and Kansas are both expected to get a visit in with Bagley, though dates for these have yet to be set. The elite big man has already taken official visits to USC and Duke. He’ll take another one to UCLA beginning Monday.
Because the Arizona visit won’t happen, that means Bagley will have two more official visits to take with Kansas and Kentucky. Had the Arizona visit happened, one of those schools would not have gotten an official.
Kentucky is already thought to be in second or third-place in this recruitment, so not getting an official is not something John Calipari can afford if he wants the top-ranked recruit in Lexington next season.
I still expect this decision to be between USC and Duke, but Bagley’s visit to Lexington could be a game-changer.
