The Kentucky Wildcats’ matchup with Monmouth this year has become the Inaugural Citi Hoops Classic at Madison Square Garden.
The two teams will play on Dec. 9, 2017 in New York City. This will be the first in a series of games for the Citi Hoops Classic, happening on a yearly basis going forward.
“This is a great opportunity to play a strong and up and coming team in a historic venue,” said John Calipari, according to a press release from G3 and Citi. “We love coming to New York and look forward to seeing the Big Blue Nation in full force out east. I’m always excited to partner with Citi to bring great basketball to the fans.”
Monmouth head coach King Rice had praise for Calipari and is excited for this game.
“I’ve looked up to Coach Calipari for a long time,” said Rice. "This game will be a great chance for our two teams to play each other outside of our conferences.”
That’ll be one of multiple neutral-site games for Kentucky in non-conference play this year. Others include UCLA at the Smoothie King Center, and Kansas at the United Center.
